The Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association will hold its 20th Annual MBARA Kingfish Tournament on Saturday, August 27, 2016, in Mexico Beach. Over the past 20 years, this all volunteer group has raised over four million dollars for 200 artificial reefs that run the gamut from 2 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico to 40 miles offshore.
This group has 8 new permitted sites, has a website, Facebook, YouTube, and a monthly newsletter. It has an outstanding Memorial Reef Program for deceased loved ones and a Corporate Friends Program to enhance year round support for reef building.
Go to www.mbara.org to check on all the activities of the group including all GPS coordinates, underwater videos, and photographs.
This annual event will feature the Captains’ Party and Registration on Friday night, August 26, at the Beacon Hill Veterans Memorial Park right off of HWY 98. The new Miss Kingfish will be there for photo opportunities, and the former Miss Kingfish ladies will be selling raffle tickets.
